Stromberg Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

The $3000 Stromberg Scholarship, is awarded annually to a full-time student pursuing a degree in electronics and actively involved in the SMTA. The grant is intended for the purchase of technical books and research materials, for participation in conferences related to electronics assembly and packaging, and for living expenses if necessary.

The Application Deadline has passed. Next year's Application Form and Eligibility Requirements will be available early in 2020!

What students are eligible?

To be eligible for the Stromberg Scholarship, the student must:
  • be a full-time student actively pursuing a degree pertinent to electronics assembly or packaging.
  • be a member in good standing with an SMTA regular or student chapter.
  • be an active SMTA member prior to application for the Scholarship. Become a student member now for just $20 to be eligible next year!
  • have a letter of recommendation from a college counselor, professor, or an SMTA chapter officer.
  • What do I need to apply?

  • Completed Application - Your application must be accurate and all fields complete.
  • Academic Credentials - Include a copy of your current transcripts, publication record, and resume.
  • Letter of Recommendation - Provide a letter of recommendation from your advisor, professor, or an SMTA chapter officer.
  • Send these documents to Matt Bourgeois, after you complete the nomination form.

    How will my application be assessed?

    The Awards Committee will evaluate:
  • Leadership Activities - You will be assessed based on the amount and type of leadership activities you have undertaken within the SMTA.
  • Degree and Career Goals - How involved do you plan to be in the electronics assembly or packaging industry once you graduate?
  • Promotional Efforts - How well have you promoted the SMTA brand and related activities?
  • What do I get if I'm selected?

  • A check for USD $3000!
  • Paid flight, hotel, and conference registration for SMTA International in October!
  • Recognition in the quarterly Journal of Surface Mount Technology
  • A personalized plaque commemorating the award
