Lead-Free SMT Soldering - Materials, Processes and Equipment

The SMTA West Penn Chapter is pleased to announce a Chapter Tutorial Program on Lead-Free SMT Soldering which will be held in conjunction with their SMTA Vendor Show.

  • Course Description
    This course is intended to give the participant an in-depth understanding of SMT lead-free soldering fundamentals. The various aspects of wave-soldering fluxes and solder paste including No-clean and water-soluble soldering processes and the impact of lead-free restrictions. Fine pitch device and ball grid array requirements will also be covered. Reflow fundamentals reviewed will include the thermal mechanisms, types of lead-free reflow profiles, the reflow technologies (including Convection Dominant and Vapor Phase), lead-free process specifications, and lead-free process concerns. The use of atmospheres in conjunction with the reflow process will also be discussed. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and raise issues they are experiencing with their current soldering processes.

    The workshop will be conducted by Phil Zarrow, President and a co-founder of ITM, Incorporated. Phil has been involved with hybrid and PCB asembly for over 25 years and has chaired and instructed at numerous seminars and conferences. He has been involved with setup and troubleshooting through-hole and SMT processes throughout the world as well as examining and working with emerging and leading-edge technologies, equipment and processes. Mr. Zarrow is a past-director of the SMTA and is active in IPC, IMAPS and also authors the "On the Forefront" column in Circuits Assembly Magazine.

    Cancellation Policy
    Registration fees will be refunded if written notice is postmarked TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. "No Shows" WILL NOT be refunded in order to cover expenses incurred. If someone will be going in your place, please advise the SMTA as soon as possible.
