Abstract: Today’s competitive environment means manufacturing has to improve its efficiency and how can we best accomplish this task? There are only certain limits to where machines can be purchased and improve productivity, the rest remains with looking at how to improve the productivity of the people working within a facility.

There are several areas where we as managers can help people to improve their productivity. The target is by empowerment. Empowerment means to give people the responsibility and the tools necessary to do the job. They take on the responsibility and ownership and with that comes accomplishment and growth. The other portion is tools, and that is where multimedia plays a significant role.

The tools necessary to do a job can be separated into physical tools and training on how to use the tools. The physical tools we can readily recognize; the screwdriver, the screen printer, etc. The larger portion has to do with training workers how to properly use and maintain the tools and gain the skills needed.
