FIBER-OPTIC ANGULAR ALIGNMENT AUTOMATION: RECENT PROGRESS

Abstract: One of the most difficult challenges facing the automation of photonics manufacturing is the automation of fiber-optic angular alignment. This talk will review the recent progress made at our lab in this field, including the angular alignment tolerance analysis, novel fiber optical coupling design, and alignment algorithm development for both single and arrayed fiber-optic components. A new fast roll alignment method will also be outlined.
