Abstract: The transformation of how we travel is among the greatest technology efforts of our time. In every corner of the automotive industry and associated domains there are massive efforts focused on achieving a vision of integrated transportation systems, safety, low environmental impact, and convenience. Cooperation extends to academia, governments, and private industry.

This vision is only possible through key enablers and technologies. A range of intelligent transportation advances are in development in the areas of microelectronics, autonomous awareness and control, artificial intelligence, adaptive learning, real-time and historic data acquisition and processing, massive cloud-based systems, and software capabilities. This paper highlights important capabilities, technologies, infrastructure, that are necessary to realize the vision and integrate these into the overall framework of Intelligent Transportation.
