Abstract: It is inevitable that an integrated product manufacturing supply chain system will emerge in the IIoT era. With this established intelligent supply chain management system, any electronics manufacturing production is going to need be real time monitored and actively controlled. There are three key elements in this newly proposed production environment which need development and integration: open access data platforms, close loop production control system and some form of background artificial intelligence. There are several software platforms which already exist attempting some level of up and down stream integration of data generated by various production process steps however, none are currently able to provide seamless integration of the diverse requirements and outputs of most large scale ERP / MES systems.

In the current electronics production control systems, the OEMs have operational analytics portal whereas EMS providers have their own production management portals It would be ideal to have these two portals interconnected by a common service bus. Even within the EMS, the production management system, planning system, process control system and data management systems require harmonious integration.

This paper presents some of the challenges in designing an intelligently integrated supply chain solution providing complete visibility to the operations inside the factory 4 walls. A case study is then presented depicting the use of sensors and controls to dynamically adjust shop floor energy requirements based on production demand planning resulting in a net savings in energy costs for the facility.
