Abstract: Modern electronics presents extreme challenge for the design of circuits, the layout of PCBs, and controllers/modules used in automotive applications. Complexities span all aspects of electronics technologies. Examples are analog, mixed signal, and digital circuit blocks, shrinking PCB outlines, high density floor plans, manufacturing tolerances. Design tools are vital to modern electronics design work. The past decades have seen the emergence of simulation tools, PCB layout tools, and recently, an increasing integration of these two tool domains. This paper provides a high-level exploration into simulation and layout tools applications in terms of capabilities, benefits, case examples and strategies that will meet increasing challenges of evolving electronics and shrinking development program cycles in the automotive industry.
