Abstract: Competition in the industry is driving board assemblers to become increasingly concerned about the costs associated with producing electronic boards, deliver responsiveness to their customer, and the quality of their assembled boards. The discussion in this paper is concerning minimal-resource lines, which can help board assemblers achieve their W% delivery and quality improvement goals. Most of the discussion is in the cost arena with a fm on equipment utilization and the important cost drivers of capital, space and staff. A fair amount of the discussion is in regard to how minimal-resource lines also improves delivery responsiveness. The minimal resource line also affords great quality improvement but that is outside the scope of this paper.
