EU Electronics Research and Development Direction; Highlights of Framework 7 and Expectations For Framework 8

Abstract: The European framework programme has been operating since 1984. Framework 7 (FP-7) is the current stage of the programme which is running from 2007 to 2013. With an overall budget of 53.2 billion euro's, FP-7 is supporting a number of research, development and technology projects in electronics manufacturing and packaging bringing together bother universities, research labs and industry both in Europe and internationally. Framework 8, known as Horizon 2020, will run from 2014-2020 and is proposed to have a budget of 80 billion euro's. Electronics manufacturing and packaging will again have a strong presence in this programme.

This paper provides an overview of the European Framework programme and how research in electronics is being positioned within the programme.
