Abstract: The success of any manufacturing organization significantly depends on supply chain capability, adaptability and resilience in addition to having near real time visibility of operational data. Poor supply chain capability can cause excess inventory and inability to meet customer orders which in turn impact the revenue and profitability of the organization. The performance can be improved by having day to day operational visibility and controls using business intelligence and specialized software tools that implement key process indicators, metrics and on-line analytics across all the levels of supply chain in addition to providing real time alerts. Rapidly changing customer demands, increasing supply chain complexity, globalization, quick time to market, flexibility of manufacturing lines, quality and increasing labor cost are the key driving factors for organizations to adopt business intelligence and specialized software tools to remain competitive in the market. The benefits of implementing such strategies and tools for manufacturing organizations will be elaborated in this paper.
