EPC/RFID IMPLEMENTATION IN MANUFACTURING

Abstract: On behalf of its OEM customer, Celestica complied with a retail customer’s mandate to apply EPC/RFID tags to all cases and pallets shipped from one of the OEM’s facilities in North America, to large retail outlets in the US. Required activities included selecting the appropriate RFID tag, readers, and antennae, and determining where such tags should be placed on pallets and cases, which varied by SKUs.

An unexpected challenge, Celestica was required to provide a solution that would enable UHF RF tags to operate in an environment where existing manufacturing equipment operates within the same UHF RF range as the EPC requirement.
