Abstract: The Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) market in North America is facing a significant challenge as production of electronic equipment migrates to China in the never-ending search for the "lowest cost region". The EMS market for high-volume electronic production in the US and Canada is gone and will not likely return.

The markets in Mexico and the Caribbean are also facing many challenges in the current economic and political environment. Results of a recent research study of the North American electronics market by Technology Forecasters, Inc. (TFI) demonstrate that in order for the industry to prosper in the future, significant actions must be taken.

Key words: North America, electronic manufacturing services, contract manufacturing, outsourcing.
