Abstract: Never before has cost efficiency in the electronics industry been more critical, considering the high-tech sector downturn, increasing international competition, and narrow profit margins. Outsourcing has been an effective cost-reduction method for many OEMs, yet OEMs and their outsourcing partners alike continually search for further ways to get costs out of products.

In this paper, see examples of methods that remove another 1 to 5 percent from cost of goods sold--with examples from IBM, Philips Electronics, LSI Logic, Intel, ITT Cannon, Texas Instruments, and many more companies through reducing wasted materials and processes. Learn also about some environmental steps that may not improve profitability. Manufacturing, operations, supply-chain, and EHS managers/executives will benefit from this paper and the presentation.

Key words: cost-savings, waste reduction, environment.
