MAXIMIZING PICK-AND-PLACE MACHINE UTILIZATION USING A MANUFACTURING OPTIMIZATION AND EXECUTION SYSTEM

Abstract: Typically, SMT pick-and-place equipment performs significantly below its maximum capacity. The high investment in capital equipment and very competitive nature of the industry require that the overall PCB assembly process be improved to maximize machine utilization. However, that is very difficult to achieve without help of computerized production control systems. The reasons for low machine utilization and excessive machine downtimes are analyzed and solution to identified problems presented through application of a Manufacturing Optimization and Execution System.
