Hand Cleaning, Brush Cleaning, and Cleaning No-Clean
Speaker: Eric Camden, Forsite, Inc.
Localized Brush Cleaning and the Associated Risk
Many CMs employ the use of localized cleaning after various hand solder operations to remove flux residues. This process is only effective when properly done and can actually make issues with contamination worse when done wrong. This presentation will cover the how and why to ensuring that localized cleaning is a benefit and not a detriment to your assemblies reliability.
Cleaning No Clean Flux Residues and Related Reliability Issues
CMs around the world are using no-clean solder paste with a subsequent wash process in an effort to reduce the risk of electrical leakage or electrochemical migration related failures in the field. While on the surface this seems like a good idea without the knowledge of how effective your cleaning process really is you can increase the risk of field failures instead of decrease. This presentation will cover analysis performed on ineffective cleaning processes with a focus on low standoff bottom terminated components as well as tips to increase wash effectiveness on no clean flux types.
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
iPhone X Teardown and X-Ray Technologies
Speaker: Bill Cardoso, Ph.D., Creative Electron
It's been 10 years since Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone to the world. Much has happened since then. Over this past decade, the iPhone became a reference design, and the object of desire of a legion of fans who wait anxiously for every launch of the Cupertino company. Undoubtedly, the most advanced iPhone in the market today, the iPhone X is a technology marvel. The double stacked boards, dual battery, and a face recognition sensor bring the iPhone X to a whole different level.
In this presentation, we'll explore these technological advances by a live teardown of the iPhone X. The teardown will be followed by a detailed coverage of the technical details of critical parts of the device. This live teardown will be accompanied by x-ray and CT images of the iPhone X, so the audience will get unprecedented insights on what makes this iPhone tick. More importantly, we will explore the assembly process utilized to put the iPhone X together. This presentation is targeted at a wide technical audience looking for a better understanding on how advance consumer electronics are designed and assembled.
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
SPI Do's and Don'ts
Speaker: Jeff Morgenson, CyberOptics Corporation
This presentation focuses on available communication technology and closed loop functionality between screen printers and SPI systems designed to improve productivity. The discussion includes the use of a ROI calculator to correlate the effect performance changes have on manufacturing capacity, revenue, and profit.
2:15 PM - 3:15 PM
Design for Reliability: Overcoming Present Day Challenges for Class III Assemblies
Speaker: Ravi Parthasarathy, ZESTRON Americas
When designing Hi-Rel electronic assemblies, functionality is critical and long term reliability is essential. This presentation provides an overview of the various failure mechanisms including the challenges associated with improper cleaning, board complexity, material mix, component and package types used. Steps to reduce the risk of failure and improve the long term reliability will be presented. Case studies will be reviewed.
