The Opportunity

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an experienced, professional, innovative, and detail oriented individual for our Test Engineering Technician III position located in Lewiston, ID. We’re looking for a Test Technician with experience in troubleshooting and writing test scripts for communication, computer, automation, RF and switching electronics.

Specific areas of focus for this position:

Understanding and review of new circuit board layouts / schematics for manufacturability

Detailed knowledge of electronic components

Development of sophisticated automated electronics testing solutions for circuit boards

Test Engineering Technician II - Floor Support

Responsibilities:

Assist engineers in research, specifications, design and implementation of automated test solutions for New Product Introduction (NPI) in a manufacturing environment. Drive use of standard test hardware and software platforms. Assist engineers in implementing manufacturing tests for complex NPI projects. Build, validate, repair, and maintain test stations. Design, build, validate, repair, and maintain test fixtures. Troubleshoot test station failures to root cause. Read, interpret, create, and review schematics and wiring diagrams for fixtures and stations. Interpret, write, and validate test scripts. Provide technical support to production floor for manufacturing test related issues. Analyze and recommend corrective actions for quality issues related to manufacturing tests. Train production operators in function and maintenance of test infrastructure and test processes. Deliver highest quality work on schedule. Model SEL values. Qualifications:

Two year associate degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology or equivalent Two years’ experience in design and development of automated test solutions for electronic products Knowledge of various automated testing equipment including: oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, spectrum analyzers, impedance analyzer, frequency counters, and network analyzers. Technical expertise using and understanding schematics and hardware analysis software Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits Excellent teamwork and communication skills Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment Background check results satisfactory to SEL Negative drug test result(s) Preferred Qualifications:

Foundational knowledge of computer programming techniques (C / C++ / C# / similar) Proficiency in scripting languages such as XML, Perl, Python or similar Test equipment experience with: Automated test equipment (ATE), ICT, flying probe, test fixtures, GPIB, etc Knowledge of industry standard communication protocols Experience in Hipot, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), Automated Vision Systems (AVS), and full functional tests of electronic products. Experience in testing digital protective relays. Experience in testing telecommunication products such as Ethernet switches, Ethernet Security Gateway, wireless and radio communication products, and SONET multiplexers. Experience in testing Satellite synchronized clocks. Experience in testing serial interfaces and protocols such as RS232, RS485, RS422, and serial fiber optic ports.
