International Wafer-Level Packaging Conference
Wafer-Level, 3D, Stacked Packaging, and Chip Scale

Sponsored jointly by the SMTA and Chip Scale Review magazine, the annual IWLPC explores cutting edge topics in wafer-level packaging and IC/MEMS/MOEMS packaging, including 3D/Stacked/CSP/SiP/SoP and mixed technology packages.

2008 Conference Exceeds Expectations

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Thomas H. Di Stefano of Centipede Systems, is an internationally recognized pioneer in the fields of chip-scale and wafer-level packaging and a founder of Tessera, San Jose. He had some interesting observations on whether WLP was mainstream or not. It is a matter of perspective and perhaps difficult to quantify. The leading packaging foundries and IDMs are certainly producing huge volumes of WLPs now and refinements are in the works to move WLP further into the mainstream.

The special panel "Where in the World?" included expert panelists who addressed the risks and rewards of establishing a semiconductor-related business in locations that include China, India, Mexico and Vietnam. Speakers Clements E. (Ed) Pausa, PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP, China; Gunjan Bagla, India; Ron Jones, Silicon Border, Mexico; and Harry Rozakis, Vietnam had a lively question and answer period.

In 2008, IWLPC attendance reached another all-time high! Attendees came from over 19 countries from around the world, including Austria, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Morocco, Norway, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States. More details and event photos will follow in Chip Scale Review magazine's November-December 2008 issue.
