During the 2014 Annual Meeting at SMTA International, the association honored members who have shown exceptional service to the association and the industry.
The FOUNDER'S AWARD honoring members who have made exceptional contributions to the industry as well as support and service to the SMTA, was presented to Marie Cole, IBM Corporation. (left). SMTA and the electronics industry have benefited immensely from Marie’s innovative foresight, industry impact, change management skill, and outstanding personal leadership qualities over the past twenty years. Her contributions of technical excellence at chapter events and conferences, on committees, and as a past board member have truly set the standard for SMTA.
The MEMBER OF TECHNICAL DISTINCTION AWARD recognizes individuals who have made significant and continuing contributions to the SMTA. This year the Awards Committee selected Diganta Das, Ph.D., University of Maryland, CALCE and Cheryl Tulkoff, DfR Solutions, as the recipients of this prestigious award.
Dr. Das organized the first CALCE/SMTA conference on Counterfeit Electronics in 2008, helping bring a major issue to light for the electronics industry. After eight years and ten conferences, there is finally a greater awareness and also a significant body of knowledge for mitigating counterfeit components during assembly and in the supply chain. As a Conference chair, speaker, and instructor, Diganta has always gone "above and beyond" in his technical dedication and leadership.
Starting in 2009 with our Academy program in Boston and moving on to presentations to numerous local chapters, participating in our ICSR event, and serving on the Medical Electronics technical committee, Cheryl Tulkoff has shown exceptional support to the SMTA. Her efforts related to SMTA International really "shine" with several papers, two courses and a poster presentation. Not only is she knowledgeable and a great presenter, but also very organized! All of the effort that she puts into her teaching and presentations really shows.
The EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AWARD honors SMTA members who stand out as strong leaders in the Association. The 2014 recipient of this award is Dave Larson, TEK Products, Inc. (right)
Dave always been 100% dedicated to the success of the SMTA. There are not many leaders who have served their chapter in every capacity... President, Vice President, Secretary, and Logistics/Newsletter. Plenty of the Oregon Chapter's success can be credited to Dave's hard work. The new chapter in Puget Sound would not have evolved without Dave's help as a driving force. We can all applaud his sense of integrity, honesty and devotion to any task he takes on.
The EXCELLENCE IN INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD is presented to members who have provided outstanding support and leadership to the SMTA's international members, chapters, or educational programs. The 2014 recipient of this award is KL Lim, Plexus Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd.
KL Lim has been 100% dedicated to the success of the SMTA and our chapter in Penang. While serving on the formation committee as well as Chapter Vice President and Chapter Advisor it has been apparent that we can always depend on KL to get the job done! We are so pleased that he will now be serving as President of the Chapter. KL has truly captured the meaning of our "excellence in international leadership" award. Mr. Lim is also a very integral part of the success of the Southeast Asia Technical Conference which draws attendees from well beyond Penang, further demonstrating our international reach. From the Penang Chapter leadership team, KL received the highest score of any leader based on leadership competency, dedication to financial security of the chapter and his interpersonal relationship with other leaders.
The SMTA+ CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP AWARD was presented to Indium Corporation. Indium Corporation joined the SMTA as a Corporate Member in 1985 and has been continuously active in their commitment to SMTA.
As a corporate SMTA member, Indium Corporation has shown support at every level of the association from chapter and board leadership positions to technical contributions at all of our conferences, committees, and publications. They embody our mission by encouraging employees to become members and attend meetings. Indium Corporation is most deserving of this honor.
The CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD recognizes an SMTA chapter that has shown exemplary commitment to our objective... "Sharing the Knowledge". The overall rating of each chapter is measured in the following areas: membership growth, regular meeting scheduling, timely reporting and communication, creative and informative technical programming, special projects, contributions and volunteer service on SMTA committees.
We present our 2014 Chapter of the Year Award to the Oregon SMTA Chapter. We are proud of the chapter's success and for their outstanding leadership team. Congratulations and thank you for "sharing the knowledge" with colleagues in our industry.
